Artemis Fowl is back and looking for his dad, who is somewhere in Russia and kidnapped by the Russian mafia (you know what they say, "what goes around comes around"). The fairies have problems of their own, someone has been selling human products to a violent goblin gang, which could mean the destruction of the fairy people as we know them. Holly thinks that the seller is none other then Artemis Fowl. Holly picks up Artemis, and with him Butler, and brings them down to Haven. Artemis has not been selling the goblins products, but that leaves...who? The fairies need Artemis' brains to figure it out and Artemis needs fairies to save his father. And so the story begins. With several interesting components including Artemis losing concentration, Butler getting knocked out and Holly punching Artemis, again.
The same profanity rate as the last one. As stated above, Holly punches Artemis. The goblins try and kill Artemis and co. The goblin gang also attacks police plaza with intent to kill. Artemis is doesn't respect the authority of teachers. Being smarter than them is probably a contributing factor.
Artemis is starting to change for the better, caring for others, saving his father. Though far from perfect, this story shows a more human side of the near invulnerable Artemis. Teamwork is what holds the worlds from crashing around rounded and pointed ears. This is highlighted again and again. Personalities that clash also compliment.
Artemis Fowl is one of my personal favorite series, with strong friendships I think these books have much to teach, the witty dialogue is an added bonus.
