George often misses his mother. When he was very young, she was the center of his world. Together they explored the gift they shared, of speaking to animals. Unfortunately, animal magic was outlawed in their kingdom, and as queen, and prince; they had to be especially careful. But any secret cannot be hidden forever.... Fast-forward ten years, the king is dieing, and the prince must marry the daughter of the neighboring king. George is prepared to marry her, dutifully, emotionlessly; until he meets the princess, and her mysterious hound.
Hmmm...magic. And a just slightly disturbing idea.
How do I love thee? let me count the ways! George is and amazing character; at first he seems just normal, but he really matures. He is kind, honorable, persistant, accepting and willing to put himself in danger to protect others.
I really love this book; it is really well written, and very unique. I love the style of the writting, and it's refreshing to read something so different.
